A seven-member special investigation team (SIT) has been constituted by the state police to nab the culprits involved in the assault incident at Golflink area which led to the death of a youth from Wahkaji in South West Khasi Hills district.

The SIT will be headed by the SP (City) Vivek Syiem.

Pherlangroi Myrthong (20) succumbed to his injuries at the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) on Sunday, a week after he along with his friends were assaulted at Golflink area on March 21.

No arrest has been made by the police so far.

“We have set up a seven-member SIT to further investigate and nab whoever is involved in the assault incident,” East Khasi Hills district police chief Sylvester Nongtnger said on Monday.

Asked, he said that a murder case will also be registered in connection with the incident.

The SP informed that the SIT has been asked to complete the investigation at the earliest possible.

Careful examination of every evidence and statement is being carried out to help police arrest the culprits, he added.
