    The Sessions Judge, Jowai, West Jaintia Hills District has convicted Elias Siangshai for the rape of a young woman in one of the villages under Nartiang PS, West Jaintia Hills District and sentenced him to 15 years of Rigorous Imprisonment with a Rs. 5,000 fine for the offence of rape and 5 years of Rigorous Imprisonment with a Rs. 1,000 fine for the offence of criminal intimidation.

    According to the court judgement passed on the 16th of this month, both sentences will run concurrently, with a total remaining imprisonment period of 12 years, 2 weeks, and 4 days after setting off prior detention.

    Siangshai raped the victim on November 15, 2021, at 12 pm in a village under Nartiang PS and after the incident he warned her not to disclose the incident to anyone.

    However, the victim filed an FIR against Siangshai and Nartiang Police Station Case No. 48(11)2021 under Sections 376(2)(f) and 506 IPC was registered against the rapist.
