Shylla says UDP to perform well in 2028, no change in party leadership

UDP leader and Cabinet Minister Kyrmen Shylla has expressed optimism that his party will perform well in the upcoming elections due to hard work and dedication over the next few years.
Speaking to media persons, Shylla said that the party’s achievements will be evident after five years, and the people will judge their performance during the elections.
He highlighted the party’s achievements in implementing schemes for the people of Meghalaya, particularly in their districts and constituencies.
“As of now people may criticize against anything but what exactly is the result your hardwork will show after five years…Being in the government, there are many achievements. I have seen that we can contribute lots of schemes to the people of our own districts and constituencies. All of us are contesting elections to be in the government, to perform well in our constituencies and at the same time to perform for the state – that is our initiative and what we really want to do and contribute,” the minister stated.
When asked about potential cabinet reshuffle, Shylla stated that there has been no discussion within the party on this matter, and any decision would be taken by the party president.
If he is willing to quit as a minister, he responded saying, “Happily and willingly will accept the proposal of the party. I will not hesitate. It will not take me a minute to take a decision because I value the proposal or any step to be taken by the party. I am here today because of the party’s blessing.”
Shylla emphasized the unity among UDP MLAs and party workers, saying that they work together and discuss issues collectively.
“No doubt, we are working together as a party. We are brothers. All 12 MLAs of UDP are working together and any step we take is with the understanding of all MLAs and party workers.”
He also denied allegation that there is a move to change the present leadership of the party and said, “That I doubt. Since nobody has come and discuss that with us we cannot accept that. If there is any grievances, the platform is open. Our president is open he gives us a platform and if we have any grievances he gives us a chance to discuss not only publicly but privately you can discuss with him directly. If anybody has anything against him, they can come to me, to Paul, Lahkmen or MLAs and party workers. They can discuss amongst themselves and collaborate those thoughts. Nothing can stop them from contributing and share their thoughts.”
When questioned about potential threats from other parties, Shylla attributed the party’s success to their performance and contribution to the people, stating that the public will judge them after five years.
Shylla expressed confidence in the party’s ability to deliver results and believed that the people of Meghalaya will reward them in the 2028 elections.
He emphasized the importance of hard work and dedication in the remaining years of their term, stating that the party will reap the benefits of their efforts during the elections.
