Shylla says those indulging in illegal coal mining have no other options

Cabinet minister in-charge Revenue and Disaster Management Kyrmen Shylla on Wednesday said nobody wants to indulge in illegal activities especially when it comes to mining and transportation of coal.
Responding to a query if the start of scientific coal mining would put a full stop to illegal mining activities, Shylla said, “Actually nobody wants to do any illegal activities in any business, they don’t enjoy doing that but it is just that they don’t have other options.”
“However, I am proud to say that under the MDA government I & II, we got this opportunity to witness the start of scientific mining and this will to a great extent benefit the people of the state,” he stated.
Stating that the people are welcoming scientific mining of coal, Shylla said this is because it would help protect the environment and lives of the people working as labourers.
He however added that scientific mining may affect in terms of profit. “But we are waiting. As they have to dig such a big hole. Scientifically, it is a long process. It looks challenging but nothing is impossible.”
Asked, the minister, who is also a legislator from Khliehriat said, “If I do anything for survival I will not look at it as illegal but to others if it is damaging their property according to them it is illegal but nobody wants to do any illegalities as only some will be benefited but by doing it in proper way nothing like it all what we are supposed to earn will go to the right person.
If somebody is practicing it they are left with no choice otherwise they will never do that. Why would they risk their own lives, their own money, why risk everything.”
