In a major political development in Jaintia Hills Region, Former Chief Executive Member of JHADC and sitting MDC of Jowai Central Constituency A. Andrew. Shullai on Monday resigned from All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) Party with immediate effect but without citing any reason for his resignation.

In a letter submitted to Meghalaya All India Trinamool Congress President Charles Pyngrope, Shullai said, “I hereby tender my resignation from the membership of the AITC with immediate effect. I thank you for providing me the opportunity to be part of the party, especially the support I receive in the last Assembly Elections.”

Shullai was fielded as a candidate from 2-Jowai Assembly Constituency by the AITC in MLA Election held in 2023 against NPP MLA Wailadmiki Shylla and UDP candidate Moonlight Pariat. However, Wailadmiki retained despite the open support of former Jowai MLA Dr R C Laloo and former JHADC Chief Executive Member MB Rymbai to Shullai.
