BJP legislator from South Shillong Sanbor Shullai has expressed deep distress about the quadruple murder at Umpleng which only indicates that the law and order situation is now a serious cause for concern.

Shullai urged the government not to  succumb under any pressure. The government has been elected to ensure law and order prevails in the society and must live upto its responsibilities.

Shullai reminded every citizen in general and the administration in particular, that no one is above the law; no one has the right to take the law into their own hands. There is no reason on earth that can justify the killing of another human being, he added,

The MLA has requested all stakeholders to desist from violence and to hand over any criminal matter to the police; thereby allowing civilized justice to prevail.

In a world where social media rules, rumours and fake propagandas can spread with a few clicks, increasing the chances of tensions within society and such incidents and accompanying negative news are not in the interest of the public, he said.

Shullai appreciated the work of the NGO’s in tackling the drug menace and other problems afflicting society and gives his full support to any form of non-violent approach to solving social issues.

In a democratic set up, everyone has the right to raise his/her voice but no one has the license to murder or assault anyone, he added.
