    The District Magistrate West Jaintia Hills District has prohibited the functioning of the Haats, Bazaar, Shops between 8.00 PM to 6 AM within 1 Km from Indo Bangladesh Border.

    The prohibitory order was promulgated under Section 144 CrPC on Friday.

    The order viewed that the bordering area in West Jaintia Hills District being totally unfenced is highly prone to smuggling of cattle/contraband good and other items such as betel nut, dry fish, biri cigarettes, chai/patti etc.

    The District Magistrate informed that reports have been received from BSF that the smuggler and other anti-National Elements gather in large numbers near the International Border during the night hours to smuggle goods from India to Bangladesh.

    Section 144 CrPC enforced to prevent Rohingyas from sneaking into India

    The order banned the movement of people at the International Border with the intention to cross the International boundary in Bangladesh or sneak in the Indian Territory.

    The order also forbids the movement of person on foot or vehicles in public under 5 Kms of the border belt from 6.00 PM to 5.00 AM

    The District Magistrate prohibited unauthorised procession or unlawful assembly of 5 (five) or more persons and carrying arms/other instruments which can be used as weapons including sticks & stones in and around 5 Km from the Indo Bangladesh Border.

    The order banned illegal undesirable activities, smuggling of cattle/contraband goods, betel nut, betel leaves, dry fish, biri, cigarettes, chai patti etc.
