Shillong Premier League: Rangdajied end Nangkiew Irat’s winning run

Rangdajied United frustrated league leaders Nangkiew Irat with a 1-1 draw in a fiery Shillong Premier League 2025 clash at the SSA Stadium, First Ground, Polo, on Thursday.
Manbhakupar Iawphniaw (23’) gave Rangdajied the lead after a brilliant run and cross from Micky Marwein, before substitute Wanlamsuk Nongkhlaw (66’) pounced on a rebound to level the scores in the second half.
The intensity on the pitch spilled over into heated confrontations, forcing referee P Mawthoh to flash several yellow cards. The drama did not end with the whistle, as a Nangkiew Irat player and the Rangdajied coach were shown red cards after the game, incidents that could affect their upcoming fixtures.
Rangdajied, who had been struggling so far, looked rejuvenated with speed, hunger, and sharper intent. Stephanson Pale twice tested Nangkiew’s goalkeeper Surjay Kumar Pariyar early on, while Benny Khriam missed a golden chance to extend the lead in the 37th minute.
Despite not scoring, Marwein stood out for Rangdajied, constantly troubling defenders with his creativity and vision. His work on the right flank directly led to Manbha’s opener, the 50th goal of the season.
Nangkiew Irat, meanwhile, relied on set-pieces but rarely troubled the opposition until Wanlamsuk’s equaliser, which came after a corner was half-cleared and Edyvenson Dhar’s fierce strike forced a spill from goalkeeper Kerichard L Marshillong.
The draw keeps Nangkiew Irat unbeaten with 10 points from four games, though their winning run is broken. Rangdajied climb from sixth to fourth with 5 points from four outings.
Tomorrow, eighth-placed Sawmer face fifth-placed Langsning at 4:30 pm.
