  • Shillong Municipal Board introduces Desludging Services for Septic Tanks

    The Shillong Municipal Board (SMB) has announced the availability of Desludging Services for septic tanks within the Greater Shillong Planning Area and nearby regions. The move comes in adherence to the Employment of Manual Scavengers and Their Rehabilitation Act, 2013, which strictly prohibits manual cleaning of septic tanks.

    Residents can avail of the service at the following rates:

    • Shillong Municipal Board Area
    • 6000 litres – Rs 7,600 per trip
    • 3000 litres – Rs 4,500 per trip
    • 1000 litres – Rs 2,800 per trip

    Outside Shillong Municipal Board Jurisdiction (Within Shillong Agglomeration Area)

    • 6000 litres – Rs 12,600 per trip
    • 3000 litres – Rs 7,500 per trip
    • 1000 litres – Rs 3,400 per trip

    For areas beyond the Shillong Agglomeration Area, an additional Rs 50 per km will be charged.

    The Shillong Municipal Board has urged the public to refrain from engaging unauthorized desludging services and to contact only the official service provider.
