Reigning champions Shillong Lajong stormed back to form with a resounding 5-0 win over Malki in the Shillong Premier League 2025 at SSA Stadium, First Ground, Polo, on Friday.

Lajong were utterly dominant and, once they found the opening through Mebannangkiew Thabah (31’), further goals flowed via Emanbha Marbaniang (39’, 51’), Ribor L Lyngkhoi (47’) and Firstborn Khongsit (84’).

Malki had come into the game after winning their first match against Laitkor 1-0, while Lajong were held to a goalless draw by Rangdajied United. Hungry to get their title defence going, the Reds turned on the style and ruled the pitch from start to finish.

Malki goalkeeper Franklin Surong, the hero of their win over Laitkor, made three fine saves early on but Lajong eventually broke through. Their first strike came from a corner that spilled to the edge of the box, where Mebanaibok Kharbudnah fired a shot that was heading wide, only for Thabah to stretch and turn it into the net.

Less than 10 minutes later, Thabah struck the upright and the rebound fell kindly for Emanbha, who made no mistake.

Malki’s only real chance of the game fell to Fashioning Syngkli, who broke past the defence but was forced wide by SLFC keeper Wanteilang Malngiang, eventually firing onto the roof of the net.

The second half began with a flurry, as Ribor smashed home a cross in the 47th minute before Emanbha added his second with a powerful header just four minutes later. Both deliveries came from the left flank.

With a comfortable lead, both sides rotated players and the pace of the game eased. However, Lajong had the last word as Firstborn Khongsit rose highest to head in a corner in the 84th minute, completing the rout.

The emphatic win pushes Lajong to second place on the table with 4 points, just behind Nangkiew Irat on 6. Malki remain on 3 points, level with Sawmer and Mawlai.

Tomorrow’s clash promises fireworks as Langsning take on Rangdajied United at 4:30pm.
