Terrific bowling performances by Shillong Cricket Association and South Garo Hills gave them both victory in their respective matches of the Inter District U-19 Women’s Cricket Tournament today.

In Group B of Zone 1, Shillong romped home to victory by 10 wickets against East Jaintia Cricket Association in Nongkhrah, Ri-Bhoi. Zone 2 in Williamnagar, East Garo Hills, saw SGH defeat Tura District Cricket Association by six wickets.

The first game saw EJCA win the toss and choose to bat but they were dismissed for 59 in 16.3 overs. Emilia Nongtdu (14) managed to get into double figures for EJCA but, otherwise, Shillong never let the batters settle. Anjana Kumar scalped 3/8 and player-of-the-match Jayshree Singh 3/17, while Neelam Roy took 2/9 and Suriti Kumar Ray 1/9.

Jayshree (18 not out) and Monica Singh (10 not out), plus 32 extras, then saw Shillong to victory in just nine overs.

The other match was fairly similar, with SGH winning the toss and choosing to field. Pillika R Marak and Awesa G Momin both hit 20 runs each, the latter unbeaten, but Tura were dismissed for 78 in 20.5 overs. Here Marme M Sangma claimed 3/27, while Smillin N Sangma (2/10), Jaylynn Mary R Marak (2/12) and Dianchidora (2/17) all bagged two wickets each.

SGH did lose four wickets in the chase, two of which fell to Grimchi Ch Sangma (2/27), but Dianchidora carried her bat in an innings of 27 not out to take her side to victory in 18 overs.
