    A 29-year-old man was arrested for his involvement in vandalising ATM machines in Shillong during loadshedding hours.

    The arrest was made after 9 cases were registered with the various police stations which include Rynjah, Madanrting and Laitumkhrah.

    A team from Rynjah PS led by Dy. SP (L&O) Jyoti Wahlang, MPS and ASP Dewansh Pandey, IPS apprehended one male (29 yrs) involved in the above cases, SP (City) Vivek Syiem said in a statement issued on Thursday.

    Preliminary interrogation has revealed that he committed the acts of crime in the ATMs at Madanrting, Laitumkhrah, Rynjah and Laban. The clothes, bag and umbrella which were used while committing the crime were seized from his house, he said.

    According to him, the total damage is worth over Rs 10 lakhs.

    The accused person has been first arrested in connection with a case registered with the Madanrting and forwarded to the court.

    Investigation will ascertain whether there are any other accomplices and modus operandi in opening ATMs, the SP said.
