BJP leader and cabinet minister AL Hek on Friday said that the former Mawsynram legislator Himalaya M Shangpliang has not inform that he will quit the party.

Speaking to reporters, Hek said, “Shangpliang has not uttered a single word that he is leaving BJP or joining other political parties. I only read it in the newspaper where the Deputy CM Sniawbhalang Dhar had claimed that he (Shangpliang) is joining (NPP) but until and unless he is joining we cannot say that he has joined them.”

He informed that the BJP is gearing up the preparation for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. Hek said that the party is yet to decide on the official candidates of the party from Shillong and Tura parliamentary seats.

The BJP leader said that Shangpliang is one of the choices of the BJP and former IPS officer M Kharkrang is also one of the potential candidates for the Shillong seat but there are many who have approached the party for ticket.
