  • Seven Teams constituted to identify area of congestion due to hawkers in 11 locations of Shillong

    In order to relocate the street hawkers and vendors in various locations of Shillong City as to ensure the road safety of pedestrians especially children and disabled persons, the Deputy Commissioner East Khasi Hills District has constituted seven different teams under the leadership of respective additional district magistrates and various teams’ members.

    The Magistrates In-charge are directed to conduct joint inspections in the areas assigned.

    The team will identity the areas of congestion caused by presence of hawkers and street vendors.

    Regulation and adjustment of existing arrangements wherever possible, such as decreasing stall area, ensuring adequate space between vendors, etc. in such a way as to ensure adequate space for pedestrian movement and no compromise made to safety and clear passage for movement of vehicles.

    Identify alternate relocation site if adjustments are not possible and relocate the vendors.

    Coordinate and liase with other stakeholders such as Syiem of Hima Mylliem, Local headmen, wherever required. The representatives of the various Hawkers’ bodies may also be briefed and oriented.

    Details of vendors may be collected during the exercise. CEO SMB and District Urban Planner will assist in this exercise.

    The team will furnish a report to the undersigned by 30th of this month.
