  • Seven arrested in dacoity cases in Ri Bhoi District

    Ri Bhoi District Police has arrested seven suspects and recovered weapons and other items used in recent dacoity cases in Umduba and Umnowe Killing under Khanapara Police Station.

    Superintendent of Police Ri Bhoi District, Giri Prasad M, IPS, in a press release issued on Friday, stated that the dacoity incidents occurred on May 22 and July 11 at Stone Crusher Units in Umduba and Umnowe Killing, Khanapara PS.

    A group of masked and armed individuals forcefully entered the crusher units and looted around Rs. 85,400 from the Umduba plant and Rs. 1,90,000 from the Umnowe Killing plant. The incident left the victims traumatized and caused distress within the community.

    The cases have been registered under Khanapara PS Case No. 17(05/2023) U/S 395/398/397/402/506/458/34 IPC R/W Sec. 27(1) Arms Act and Khanapara PS Case No. 26(07)2023 U/S 395/398/397/402/506/458/34 IPC.

    A Special Investigation Team (SIT) was constituted to assist the investigation officers (I/Os) in the case. The SIT launched a comprehensive investigation, utilizing confidential sources, employing multiple disciplinary approaches, and employing the latest forensic techniques and data analysis to gather vital evidence and identify the culprits.

    Following a thorough investigation of the dedicated SIT team successfully identify and located the prime suspects involved in the heinous act. The arrested persons are residents of Umdubaa PS-Khanapara, Ri Bhoi District, named Kandil Marak, Rechil Momin, Wilsh Marak, Robert Momin, Marus Marak, Bimod Marak, and Collin Marak.

    The investigation led to the recovery of various arms and articles used during the commission of these robberies. The recovered items include an Air gun, Country-made rifle, two Country pistols, Gunpowder, Triggering cap (Shri. Brindavan roll cap) – 12 nos, Small red cloth for muzzle loading of gunpowder, Camouflage T-Shirt – 9 nos, Camouflage Pant – 9 nos, Black Scarf – 10 nos, Camouflage/jungle boot – 8 pairs, Carry bag of Apollo shoes – 3 nos, White sack – 4 nos, Black Bag.

    The SP emphasized that this investigation sends a strong message that criminal activities, particularly Dacoities, will not be tolerated. He urges everyone to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities to the Police Department to ensure the safety and security of the residents.
