Section 163 BNSS revoked but plying over Umbir bridge prohibited

The East Khasi Hills District Administration has revoked the imposition of Section 163 of BNSS 2023 prohibiting the movement of overloaded vehicles exceeding 9 metric tonnes on Mawmaram Nongthliew Mawmih Mawlyndep Road.
According to an order issued on July 3, 2025, the District Magistrate of East Khasi Hills District informed that the said prohibitory order was issued vide No. C&S.14/163/BNSS/2023/32-A Dated Shillong, the 21st April, 2025.
The order informed that as per intimation from the Executive Engineer, PWD (Roads), Umsning Division, Umsning, the construction of a Sub-way at Bridge No. 6/1 located at Umbir has been completed and is now open for public use. The permissible load on the bridge is restricted to 9 Metric Tonnes; however, all light and heavy vehicles are directed not to ply on the bridge itself but to use the newly constructed Sub-way adjacent to the bridge.
Henceforth, light and heavy vehicles are permitted to ply on the Mawmaram-Nongthliew- Mawmih-Mawlyndep-Lad Umsaw Road not exceeding 9 Metric Tonnes. However, all light and heavy vehicles are directed not to ply over Bridge No.6/1 at Umbir and must instead utilize the designated Sub-way constructed alongside the bridge.
