The Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Sohra Civil Sub-Division, Sohra, has imposed Section 163 BNSS prohibiting the transportation of boulders and sand by trucks between 5:00 AM and 8:00 PM along the Shillong-Sohra Road.

The order, notified on July 10, 2025, also prohibits the carrying of boulders and sand beyond the permissible load limit.

According to the order, many 16-wheeler trucks laden with sand and boulders are plying along the Shella-Sohra road, carrying loads in excess of the permissible norms.

Moreover, complaints have been received from several Sirdar, Sordar, and Headmen regarding the movement of these overloaded trucks, which they described as a nuisance and a danger to pedestrians.

The order observed that the plying of such overloaded trucks poses risks to both vehicular and pedestrian traffic, often leading to traffic jams on sharp turns and instances of trucks overturning on bends.

It further noted that the movement of these trucks has caused damage to the newly constructed road, with potholes and cracks now visible on its surface.
