    The District Magistrate, East Jaintia Hills District E Kharmaliki on Wednesday imposed section 144 CrPC read under section 10 (2) of the Disaster Management Act, 2005 after the public blatantly violates COVID-19 safety norms in public transportations, massive crowds are also thronging the market places and violating norms of social distancing.

    The order was issued to ensure COVID Appropriate  – Behavior (CAB) and to control the transmission of COVID-19 virus in the District especially in all crowded places, such as shops, malls, markets, market complexes, restaurants,  public places, sports complexes and in villages with more than 10 (ten) Covid-19 active cases.

    As per the order, the following COVID Appropriate Behavior was issued which states that wearing of mask is compulsory in work place, public place and during transportation. Crowded places should be avoided, individuals must maintain distance of 6 feet in public places and they should also avoid shaking hands. In addition, shops will ensure physical distances among customers, spitting in public places will be punishable with fine.

    The order states that frequent sanitization of the entire workplace, common facilities and all points which come into human contact like door handles etc, must be ensured including shifts. All persons in charge of work places will ensure adequate distance between workers and other staff.

    This order comes to force with immediate effect until further order.

    Any person violating these measures will be liable to be prosecuted as per the provision of Section 51 to 60 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, besides legal action U/S 185 of the IPC and other legal provision as applicable.
