The state government on Monday said it is determined to soon start the second phase of border talks with Assam for resolving the boundary dispute in the remaining 6 areas of difference.

“We want to take up the second phase of border talks (immediately),” Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong told reporters.

Informing that quite a number of traditional heads from Block I & II, Psiar, Khanduli etc had recently met him, Tynsong said, “(They have) requested the state government to please start the joint inspection in these remaining areas of difference as they said enough is enough, we want to be clear now where is Meghalaya and where is Assam.”

When asked, he said, “I can’t say anything as the decision lies with the chief ministers of the two states. Whenever they say yes let us start taking up the second phase then we will start.”

Earlier, Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had informed that the second phase of border talks will take place in the June-July.
