Meghalaya’s State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) on October 6 located two bodies believed to be the occupants of a car retrieved yesterday from floodwaters at the Dalu Sonagre, junction under Barengapara PS, West Garo Hills.

The bodies, one of an adult male and the other of a minor boy, were found this morning by the SDRF following a search operation that began yesterday after the recovery of a vehicle bearing West Bengal registration plates (WB 06 7718, Wagon R).

The SDRF first located the body of the adult male, identified as Bijoy S Sangma, 44, at 10:19 AM in a paddy field. The body of the minor, identified as 13-year-old Wian Chigado R Marak, was recovered at approximately 10:48 AM, a few meters away from where the father’s body was found. Both victims were residents of Rongkhon Songgital, Tura.

The SDRF team has been stationed in the flood-hit Dalu area since Friday, following flash floods caused by heavy rainfall.
