The Deputy Commissioner of West Jaintia Hills District has ordered the closure of all schools on May 28, 2024, in anticipation of Cyclone Remal’s impact. This decision has been made considering the heavy rains and strong winds forecasted by the IMD for the region.

The order emphasize the importance of prioritizing the safety and well-being of students, teachers, and school staff in light of the adverse weather conditions expected with the cyclone’s arrival.

To ensure safety, school authorities have been instructed to take specific precautions to secure school buildings and infrastructure. These precautions include ensuring all windows, doors and other openings are properly fastened, removing any objects that could become projectiles in strong winds and relocating important documents and electronic equipment to safer areas within the premises.

Additionally, school administrations are required to promptly inform parents and guardians about the closure through available communication channels, including phone calls, SMS, emails and social media platforms, to ensure that children remain at home and safe during this period.
