    SHILLONG: The Supreme Court has directed the state government to submit the report of the Technical Committee relating to the quantity of already extracted coal lying in the state within one week.

    “Let it (submission of Technical Committee’s Report) be done within a week,” the bench comprises of Justice Ashok Bhushan and Justice KM Joseph said in its order passed on Thursday, while hearing the matter related to the ban on coal mining in Meghalaya.

    It has also directed the ASG ANS Nadkarni to file affidavit on behalf of the Union government before the next date of hearing on the matter fixed on April 24.

    In a statement issued here, Madal Sumer, a resident Panaliar, Jowai has expressed concern over the failure of the Central government to submit the status report on its decision with regards to coal mining in the state as was directed by the Court earlier.

    He said that the Supreme Court has also agreed to hear the IAs filed by the state government and private parties for allowing transportation of coal in the next hearing.
