Voice of the People Party (VPP) MDC from Lyngkyrdem-Laitkroh Shemborlang Rynjah and MDC from Mawkhar-Pynthorumkhrah Strong Pillar Kharjana are all set to be elected unopposed to the post of Chief Executive Member (CEM) and the post of Chairman of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), elections of which will be held on Friday.

This was after the opposition political parties had decided not to field candidates for the two posts.

Rynjah and Kharjana together filed their nomination papers for the CEM and Chairman posts just after taking oath as new members of the KHADC on Thursday.

“After scrutinizing the nomination papers, they are found to be in order and they are accepted. Since there is no other contestant they (Rynjah and Kharjana) are all set to be elected uncontested,” Secretary of the KHADC B Sohtun told reporters.

The VPP has decided to form the new executive committee with only eight members including the CEM in order to reduce expenditures of the council.

On Friday, the election to the post of CEM will be held at 2 pm after the election to the post of Chairman at 11 am.

The VPP has also decided to field Mawhati MDC, Kynjohlang Rangtong as the contender for the post of Deputy Chairman.

The MDCs proposed to be inducted as Executive Members (EMs) are Mawthadraishan MDC, Powell Sohkhlet, Nongthymmai MDC, Winston Tony Lyngdoh, Mawkyrwat MDC, Pynkhraw Kharjahrin, Mawkynrew MDC, Seiborlang Warbah, Umroi MDC, Isnei Hinge, Mylliem MDC, Aibandaplin L. Nonglait, and Laitumkhrah-Malki MDC, Deiti Majaw.
