    The District Magistrate, East Khasi Hills District on Sunday has declared the RP Chest Hospital Road, opposite Crematorium, Mawbah Barapathar as a Containment Zone after COVID-19 positive cases.

    The areas that fall under the containment zones:

    1. House of Shri Ravi Marbaniang in the North

    2. House of Mrs Aparna Sharma in the East

    3. House of Arati Bhavan in the South and

    4. TB Hospital Road in the West

    The order restrict unregulated entry and exit in the affected areas to complete the contact tracing and to prevent the spread of COVID-19 pandemic.

    The order was issued by District Magistrate in view of the report received from the Incident Commander Zone-IV and the Medical Officer in-charge Zone-IV that there is a surge of COVID-19 positive case in RP Chest Hospital Road, opposite Crematorium, Mawbah Barapathar and in order to prevent further transmission among the susceptible population, early detection through active house to house (H-T-H) search for persons with symptoms, persons with co-morbidities and contact tracing of the high-risk and low-risk contacts is required and further, for effective house to house (H-T-H) surveillance, complete containment of the area is required to ensure people stay indoors during the active search of cases.

    The District Magistrate has also declared the PWD Quarter No-49 at Barik, Quarter No. E-6 of Survey of India, Barik, house of Smti H. Wankhar of Lawsohtun Block-2, and the top floor of the house of Mrs. Aroma Shullai, New Kench’s Trace behind Sankardev College as Micro-Containment Zone.

    In another order, the District Administration lifted the containment for the top floor of the house Mr. Biju Paul, Rilbong Burnside near Sankardev Women’s Hostel and the building of Dr. (Mrs.) Tinnu S. Momin, Rilbong near Meghalaya Assembly.

    East Khasi Hills district tops the list of districts in COVID-19 positive cases with 1,738 infections. The state has detected a total of 7,683 COVID-19 out of which 2,478 are active cases, 5,142 recovered and 63 deaths.
