  • Rotary Club presents the COVID warrior award to two senior journalists of Jaintia Hills

    Two senior journalists from Jaintia Hills were felicitated by the Rotary Club, Jowai on Friday.

    The Club has recognized the contribution made by journalists to keep the public well informed especially during this COVID-19 pandemic.

    Russel Nongrum, Editor Publisher, syllad.com and Sajeki passah, Editor of wyrta.com were awarded with Certificate of Gratitude during an award ceremony for COVID-19 warriors held at Infinity Restaurant at Jowai in the presence of Rtn. (Dr.) K.S. Elangbam (MPHF) Assistant Governor Zone-X 2020-21, RID 3240.

    In his speech, Nongrum thanked the Rotary Club for taking such an initiative to recognize the contribution of the media during this ongoing global health crisis.

    He said amid the hardship due to the prevailing situation, the media persons are performing their professional duties on regular basis for the interest of the people and the state.

    “We are not the only heroes to be recognised, I believe all my colleagues also deserve to be recognised for their duties,” Nongrum also the General Secretary Jaintia Journalist Association (JJA) said.

    The Editor of syllad.com spoke about the plight of journalists in the state when he said, “working journalists are the least paid.” He however said despite this, journalists are committed towards their duties as watchdogs.

    Earlier Rotary Club Jowai inducted new members in a meeting chaired by Rtn SK Lato, President Rotary Club, Jowai.

    Rotary Club felicitated all the new members include Reuveny Nongtdu, Dawan Biam, Reming Pala and Dr Kamwada-e Syngkon.
