    The District Social Welfare Office, in collaboration with the District Child Protection Office and partner NGOs, held a three-day roadshow in the East Khasi Hills District to mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse & Illicit Trafficking in 2023.

    The roadshow was held on June 20 at Motphran & Mawlai Phudmuri, June 21 at Jhalupara & Laimer Kynton, and June 22 at Police Bt House, Laitumkhrah & Lad Smit.

    The Introductory speech about the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan was shared in each of the programme. programmes were chaired by B Chyne, Protection Officer (Non-Institutional Care), O/o District Child Protection Officer, District Child Protection Unit, East Khasi Hills. RJ Zack from 93.5 Red FM, South Asia LTD, Shillong presented folklore during the programme.

    A welcome address was delivered by the Representative from the concerned Locality. During the programme, a pledge-taking ceremony were conducted and all the participants and the public in general are participated. Flash mob from the student’s Bachelor of Social Work, St. Edmund’s College, Shillong were presented in each and every scene of the programmes. Pamphlets/ Flyers were being distributed to all the participants and all the public at large.  

    A speech from the experts, S Marbaniang, Counsellor, New Life De-addiction Centre, KJP Synod Sepngi, Urban Mission, Keshab Lamsal, Counsellor, Kripa Foundation (ODIC), Shillong and Grace Thongni, Counsellor, Kripa Foundation, De-addiction Centre for Male Children, Shillong were delivered and it spoke about the basic of drug, Ill effects of drugs, alcoholism and other substance abuse, information on National Toll Free Helpline 14446 issued by the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Govt. of India, availability and facilities including the contact details and emails about the De-addiction Centres under East Khasi Hills District also have been shared during the programme.
