Ri-Bhoi hosts 5KM marathon to mark anti-drug day

As part of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking and under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, the Office of the District Sports Officer, Ri-Bhoi District, in collaboration with the District Social Welfare Office, organised a 5-kilometer awareness marathon titled “Run Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking” on Wednesday.

The run started from the Indoor Stadium at Saiden and concluded at the Indoor Stadium in Umlyngkdait, Nongpoh. The event was flagged off by District Social Welfare Officer N.F. Sunn in the presence of officials from the District Sports Office, youth participants, and community members.

In the men’s category, Monas Bongrung secured the first position, followed by Lapynkhraw Thabah in second and Iakop Klein in third. In the women’s category, Felina Hansepi came first, while Aiban Khongwir and Barisha Khymdeit finished second and third respectively.

Special recognition was given to senior participants. Sonra Rani was felicitated in the women’s senior category and Pel Bey in the men’s senior category.

Prizes and tokens of appreciation were distributed to all winners and participants.
