  • Ri Bhoi DM found USTM violating MHA’s norms

    The District Magistrate of Ri Bhoi RM Kurbah has directed the Chancellor of the University of Science & Technology, Meghalaya (USTM) Mahbubul Hoque to refrain from entering the state after he was found to have violated the inter-state movement restriction.

    “You (Hoque) are hereby directed to refrain yourself from entering the State without prior approval from the State Government. This order shall come into force with immediate effect,” Kurbah said in her order issued on Wednesday.

    The order stated that information has been received that the Chancellor of the University of Science & Technology, Meghalaya (USTM) along with others have violated the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) dated May 1. The Ministry has restricted inter-state movement of individuals except for medical reasons or for activities as permitted by the MHA.

    It also said violation of this lockdown measures and the National directives for COVID-19 Management is liable to be proceeded against as per provision of Section 51-60 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, besides legal action under 188 of the IPC and other legal provisions as applicable.
