The strength and skill of male and female weightlifters from across the Khasi and Jaintia regions were on full display at the 3rd State Weightlifting Championship 2024.

Organized by the Meghalaya Weightlifting Association (MWA) in collaboration with the office of the District Sports Officer (DSO), West Jaintia Hills, the event saw participation from 18 women and 27 men.

This two-day weightlifting competition, which commenced on October 25 and concluded on October 26, was held at the Tpeppale community hall in Jowai. The aim was to identify and encourage athletes who could potentially represent the state in the upcoming Meghalaya Games 2025 in Jowai and Wahiajer.

Medals were distributed by Chief Guest JHADC MDC Eveningstar Teron, alongside dignitaries such as District Sports Officer Khroobok Passah, Working President of the Meghalaya State Olympic Association John F. Kharshiing, and President of the Meghalaya Weightlifting Association Donald Rymbai. Officials from the Arunachal Weightlifting Association, including Biku Satita (International Referee CAT-2), Techi Nadam, and Takio Yana Tagru (both National Referees CAT-2), supervised the event.
