Assam Royal Global University (RGU) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) to provide academic scholarships for the children of CRPF personnel, including full tuition support for the wards of martyrs and gallantry awardees. The initiative aims to recognize the sacrifices of security personnel while improving access to higher education for their families.

The MoU was signed on Monday by RGU Registrar (Academics) Prof. (Dr.) D.N. Singh and Soma Mukherjee, president of R/CWA, GC, CRPF Guwahati, in the presence of CRPF Deputy Inspector General Manas Ranjan and senior officials from both institutions.

Under the agreement, two categories of scholarships have been introduced. The ‘Royal Shaurya’ scholarship offers 100 per cent tuition waiver for the families of CRPF martyrs and gallantry award recipients. The ‘Royal Suraksha’ scholarship provides 50 per cent tuition support for wards of serving CRPF personnel. These scholarships apply to degree programs regulated by statutory bodies such as AICTE, COA, PCI, INC, ANMHVC, and BCI.

Speaking at the event, Prof. Singh emphasized that the scholarships are meant not just as financial aid, but as a tribute to the dedication of the armed forces. DIG Manas Ranjan praised the initiative, stating that the scholarships would help CRPF families cope with frequent job transfers that often disrupt their children’s education.

RGU has a broad scholarship portfolio beyond this new partnership. The university offers the Royal Merit On Admission Scholarship, which covers 100 per cent of annual, admission, and registration fees for top-performing students. For economically weaker students, a full waiver is available under the Royal Scholarship for EWS. The Royal Endowment Scholarship supports students involved in sports, music, and fine arts, as well as differently abled students, children of Padma awardees, and those from single-parent households or low-income families.

Additionally, RGU’s Sports Scholarship recognizes athletic excellence by offering tiered financial support ranging from 40 to 100 per cent based on performance in sports recognized by the Indian Olympic Association. The Monthly Scholarship for Semester Toppers awards ₹3,000 to high-achieving students across departments, encouraging sustained academic excellence.

Utpal Kanta, Director of Growth and Strategy at RGU, said the university’s scholarship programs are designed to ensure that deserving students from all backgrounds can access quality education. The partnership with CRPF, he added, reinforces RGU’s commitment to socially responsive education and national service.
