Dead body of one of the five miners trapped inside an illegal coal mine in East Jaintia Hills district was retrieved on Wednesday, officials said.

The Navy Team assisted by the NDRF, SDRF, Fire Service and personnel from the District Administration has retrieved one unidentified dead body from the main shaft, they said.

Inquest has been conducted by the Executive Magistrate at the spot and the dead body was further transported to Khliehriat Morgue for Post Mortem.

Relatives have been informed to come forward to identify the retrieved dead body.  Dewatering process resumes after  the navy operation.

In continuation of the rescue operation, the rescue teams of NDRF and SDRF found that the water level has risen by 40 (Forty) feet as no dewatering process took place during the navy operation.

After the navy operation yesterday, de-watering resumes throughout the evening and towards late night  and about 2.16 lakhs liters of water has been pumped out from the main shaft and about 4.50 lakhs liters of water from the 2nd shaft.
