Real estate players told to comply with RERA regulations in Meghalaya

The Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA) Meghalaya has called on all promoters, developers, and real estate agents operating in the state to register themselves and their projects as mandated under the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, 2016.
The Government of Meghalaya had notified the Authority on February 18, 2020, to create a transparent, accountable, and efficient framework for the real estate sector as it begins to emerge in the state.
RERA Meghalaya oversees the registration of real estate projects, promoters, and agents; ensures compliance with the provisions of the Act and rules made thereunder; provides an inbuilt adjudicating mechanism for swift resolution of disputes; and protects homebuyer interests through regulatory oversight.
The Authority comprises a full-time Chairman and two Members and functions as an independent statutory body. Its office is located at the Urban Affairs Complex, Kharmalki (behind Shillong Law College), Dhanketi, Shillong – 793001.
“This is not only a legal requirement, but also a key step toward building credibility and trust in the real estate ecosystem,” RERA Meghalaya stated. “This important step reflects the Government’s commitment to responsible growth, consumer protection, and transparency in Meghalaya’s future real estate development.”
The authority warned that failure to comply may attract penalties and regulatory action under the Act.
