Raj Kabir Joshi powers into record books with 4-medal blitz at National Powerlifting Championship

Raj Kabir Joshi, a young powerlifting talent from Assam, delivered a record-shattering performance at the National Classic Sub-Junior and Junior Powerlifting Championship held at Shivaji University, Kolhapur.
Competing in the 83 kg sub-junior category, Raj Kabir stunned the field by setting a new national record in the Squat, securing the gold medal in the process. He added to his medal haul with a silver in Bench Press, a bronze in Deadlift, and an overall silver, finishing the championship with four medals—a remarkable achievement that has ignited pride across Assam.
The 18-year-old is the eldest son of Rajesh Kumar Joshi and Aparupa Joshi, and recently completed his Class 12 at SFS Higher Secondary School, Narengi.
Assam Congress chief Bhupen Kumar Borah took to social media to celebrate the athlete’s success, posting on X (formerly Twitter):
“Today, Raj Kabir Joshi broke the national record in Squat in the 83 kg sub-junior category, won silver in Bench Press and bronze in Deadlift—bringing home four medals. A proud moment for Assam!”
The championship, showcasing India’s best sub-junior and junior lifters, has thrown the spotlight on Assam’s rising stature in strength sports, with Raj Kabir Joshi emerging as a name to watch on the national stage.
