Raj Bhavan Assam pushes NEP rollout, calls for skilling and innovation

Raj Bhavan Assam, under the leadership of Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya, convened a high-level meeting on Tuesday to assess the progress of National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 implementation across the state’s universities.
Held at the Raj Bhavan campus, the meeting brought together Vice-Chancellors and senior academic officials from institutions including Dibrugarh University, Assam Women’s University, Bodoland University, and Kumar Bhaskar Varma Sanskrit and Ancient Studies University.
Chaired by Raj Bhavan Advisor Dr. Harbansh Dixit and OSD Prof. Bechan Lal, the session took stock of how far universities have aligned their academic structures with NEP 2020 goals. Discussions focused on key aspects of higher education reform such as skill development, research and innovation, entrepreneurship, student placement, and stronger linkages between alumni, academia, and industry.

Following the Governor’s directives, the meeting stressed the need for universities to become hubs of holistic human development and research excellence. It also underscored the pivotal role of Vice-Chancellors in driving institutional change and ensuring that NEP 2020 is fully integrated into university ecosystems.

The session reaffirmed Raj Bhavan’s commitment to supporting transformative educational initiatives that prioritize student welfare, inclusive education, and institutional quality. Senior officials from the higher education department and Raj Bhavan also participated in the meeting, which forms part of an ongoing series aimed at accelerating the NEP rollout across Assam.
