All India Congress Committee (AICC) Secretary Mathew Anthony said the Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ in Bihar, to expose electoral malpractices are also relevant to Meghalaya.

Addressing media persons, Anthony said Rahul Gandhi has exposed one constituency in Karnataka where 1 lakh votes were of multiple duplicates and faking of its origin whereby which the votes in the constituency were misalign or fabricated for a victory

Anthony questioned the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) accountability, asking whether it is answerable to the government or the people.

“Who is constitutional body of the election commission of India? Are they answerable to the government or are they answerable to the people to conduct a fair and just election. The cause which is championed by the leader of opposition Rahul Gandhi is that the ECI is prima facie at fault and in cohort with the government of India to manipulate the election results, which has given this victory for BJP to form this government at the Centre,” he said.

Referring to similar issues reported in Madhya Pradesh, where 700 voters were found to be registered at a single address, the AICC leader said, “So if the ECI is fair, what is stopping the ECI to share the voters’ details for the nation to compare it in a very transparent manner.”

“What is there for ECI to hide? What is there for the ECI not to be transparent to the people of this country? That is exactly what the Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi is asking,” he added.

Anthony said that the concerns raised by Rahul Gandhi are relevant to Meghalaya as well, as the integrity of the electoral process is a national issue.

He stressed that if the voting process is manipulated, it undermines the democratic system and the people’s right to choose their representatives.

“That is the point we are communicating and that is where the people of Meghalaya also has to be concerned about this,” he added.

Anthony also responded to the Supreme Court’s remarks on the Leader of Opposition, stating that Rahul Gandhi’s efforts to raise concerns about electoral malpractices are essential to protecting the Constitution and democracy.

He argued that Gandhi, as a servant of the people, has a responsibility to speak out on issues affecting the nation.

“If the leader of oppositon has denied to raise the matter in the parliament which is of concerned to the people and denied the opportunity to have a debate in the parliament then where shall he talk? He should talk to the people because he is a servant to the people, he is elected by the people and he has been given the responsibility by the people. So, the one who is fighting for the constitution cannot or should not be reprimanded by such overreach,” the AICC leader stated.
