Purple Fair 2025: Celebrating ability, inclusion, and dignity in Meghalaya

The 2nd Purple Fair 2025 was held on August 27 at U Soso Tham Auditorium, Shillong, organised by the Composite Regional Centre for Skill Development, Rehabilitation & Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (CRCSRE), Shillong, in collaboration with the Office of the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, Government of Meghalaya.
The fair brought together over 687 participants, including 325 Persons with Disabilities (PwDs), along with their families, caregivers, NGOs, and officials, creating a vibrant platform for inclusion and empowerment.
Speaking as Chief Guest, Paul Lyngdoh, Minister of Social Welfare, underlined the need to ensure equal opportunities for PwDs, with emphasis on vocational training, accessible infrastructure, and financial assistance. He reaffirmed the government’s strong commitment to building an inclusive Meghalaya.
The day-long programme featured awareness sessions, exhibitions of assistive devices and vocational products, cultural performances, and inclusive sports activities that showcased the skills, creativity, and resilience of PwDs.
A special highlight was the presence of Prisca Pyngrope, Purple Fair Ambassador, who inspired participants with her message of empowerment and advocacy for disability rights.
The fair also showcased the proactive initiatives of CRCSRE Shillong in training, rehabilitation, healthcare, and accessibility—reaffirming Meghalaya’s vision of dignity and equality for all.
The 2nd Purple Fair 2025 successfully combined policy focus with community participation, strengthening the resolve to create a more inclusive society for Persons with Disabilities in Meghalaya.
The programme was attended by Camelia Doreen Lyngwa, MCS, Director, Social Welfare Department; L. Kynjing, MCS, Commissioner for PwDs; Dalikynti Kharshing, MCS, Additional Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District; and Bridget Warshong, Deputy Commissioner for PwDs, Government of Meghalaya.
