    The District Magistrate, East Jaintia Hills District on Tuesday has issued a prohibitory order from midnight of April 13 until further orders in the entire of East Jaintia Hills District.

    The order was issued in view of the surge in the number of COVID-19 cases in many states of the country with the possibility of the emergence of new strains requiring immediate steps to be taken to contain the spread of the virus in the state and to put in place preventive measures and awareness, to identify and take stringent steps to ensure social distancing so that the COVID-19 pandemic does not spread to East Jaintia Hills District

    The order prohibits any assembly whatsoever and while enforcing this, every individual to mandatorily maintain social distancing of at least 6 feet, wearing of masks, respiratory etiquette and to strictly follow without fail the various protocols and advisories of the Government in the Health and Family Welfare Department at all times.

    All forms of large public gathering and congregation including social, political, entertainment, academic, cultural and religious functions etc is also prohibited.

    The order also prohibits movement in public, work places, shops and during transport without wearing of mask (Any violation shall be imposed fine upto Rs 1000.00/-), spitting and consumption of liquor, pan, gutka, tobacco etc. in public places.

    In addition, the general instruction of the order states that every individual must maintain a minimum distance of 6 feet/ 2 meters in public places. Shops, Restaurants and Bars in East Jaintia Hills District are directed to close by 9.00 P.M. The residents should ensure maintenance of COVID appropriate behavior. Furthermore, the attendance in congregation to be brought down to 50 %. All hotels to insist for COVID Negative Certificate for those tourists arriving from outside the State. Seating to the permitted capacity only to be ensured in public transportation vehicles.
