OR Shallam a responsible veteran citizen of India from West Jaintia Hills District sought the immediate attention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the pathetic and unconstitutional management and maintenance of roads highways in the State of Meghalaya under the NPP led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) Government.

In a letter to Modi, Shallam said the Govt has failed each and every section of residents in the state and caused immense inconveniences to the public at large and at all times.

“Prime Minister Sir, the National Highway-6 (the then NH-44) which is a single bloodline roadway connecting four major North Eastern States viz, Assam, Mizoram, Manipur and Tripura via Meghalaya is currently in a pathetic and deplorable condition particularly the section between Shillong – Jowai. The road is completely filled and submerged under non- commuting potholes zone causing horrific and hourly traffic snarl and jams at a daily basis besides causing fatal roads accidents leading to a daily loss of movable property and posing life threatening situations,” the letter read.

Shallam said that Meghalaya’s state capital Shillong is the only centre for education, health as well as trade and commerce hub in the entire state. The residents of Jaintia Hills region which is the eastern side of the state needs to attend to their daily businesses, health check-ups and studies besides other essential necessities have to commute through the present road conditions of the NH- 6.
