     “We, as people who live in remote areas, think that it is difficult to attain a nutritional diet for children, pregnant women, lactating mothers as compared to people who live in urban areas. However, this programme plays a very important role as it helps us understand that anyone can get a healthy and balanced diet with proper guidance and training” said Batskhem Ryntathiang, MDC Mairang Constituency while addressing the gathering as Chief Guest to the Anganwadi workers, ASHAs and farmers at a function organised by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, West Khasi Hills at Tirot Sing Memorial Hall, Pyndengumiong, Mairang, West Khasi Hills District on Thursday.

    The nutritional importance to vulnerable groups like infants, adolescent girls, pregnant women and lactating mothers were explained by Smti L Warjri, Senior Scientist and Head of Krishi Vigyan Kendra West Khasi Hills and also emphasised the importance of consumption of nutritional diets with locally available materials to attain nutritional security.

    Preparation of events by KVK, West Khasi Hills in the month long celebration of Poshan Maah (Poshan Abhiyan 2020) include seed, planting material distribution, conducting of capacity building, awareness & training programs where the focus areas were Nutri models like nutri gardens at farmers’ field, schools, terrace gardens, rooftop gardens

    Seeds and planting materials were also distributed to the farmers, Anganwadi workers and ASHA by the chief guest A Nongbri, SDO (C) Mairang Civil Sub Division.

    In the technical sessions, two topics were deliberated and discussed. The topics included Models of Nutri-garden, Biofortified varieties in nutrition and package of practices of vegetable & horticultural crops deliberated by Y Sohtun, SMS (Horticulture) Krishi Vigyan Kendra, West Khasi Hillsa and On Nutri-thali for balanced diet by Smt W Marwein, Nutritionist, District Programme Officer, ICDS Cell, Nongstoin.
