  • Power Minister attends 28th NERPC Meeting in Guwahati; Meghalaya to chair in FY 2025-26

    28th North Eastern Regional Power Committee (NERPC) Meeting was held at Radisson Blu Guwahati. Power Minister AT Mondal and Commissioner and Secretary Power, Government of Meghalaya Sanjay Goyal represented the State of Meghalaya.

    AT Mondal appraised the forum about the steps taken by the Government of Meghalaya to harness the potential of hydro power available in the state. He briefed the forum on the progress of Riangdo Small Hydro Project, DPR preparation for Myndtu Leshka Stage II project and the proposal received from the private developers for small hydro projects.

    He also appraised the Committee about the key schemes/ proposals submitted by state of Meghalaya under the PSDF  with respect to Transmission, Distribution and State Load Despatch centers which aim at improving the system reliability, quality of supply and cyber security and requested for early sanction of the same.

    Emphasising on the importance of Down Stream infrastructure, he requested that the funding of the 33 KV sub-stations for last mile connectivity which was submitted by MePDCL in August 2024 may be expedited in order to ensure that there is no congestion in the distribution system resulting in the availability of 24X7 quality power for the consumers of Meghalaya.

    He also informed the forum that though the State of Meghalaya is committed to have a robust resource adequacy plan in place to ensure that there is no probability of loss of load at any point of time.

    The Minister also sought support of other NE States in emphasising the Central Government to revisit the Pump Storage Policy so that the smaller states who have the potential but no major peak demand get the benefit of the project in the state.

    It was also decided in the 28th NERPC meeting that Meghalaya will be having the Chairmanship of the NERPC for Financial Year 2025-26.
