Sordar of Mawryngkneng village Peter Lawai expressed concern that the Pomlahier Greater Water Supply Scheme under the Jal Jeevan Mission has been stalled.

Speaking to reporters on Saturday, he said that the treatment plant has been completed and the deadline of completion of the entire project was supposed to be the end of February 2024.

The dorbar shnong of Mawryngkneng has requested the PHE minister, PHE officials to start and complete the work as soon as possible by the month of July 2024.

He said the scheme was sanctioned in the year 2023 at a cost of more than Rs 48 crore. The JJM project is covering 3000 households in Mawryngkneng.

“They have started the work in 2023, I am sad to say that this project has now been stopped. This treatment plant is completed but as per the work order given from the PHE department, they fix the deadline for the project completion by the end of February 2024,” he said.

Lawai said that some of the contractors have not started the work as far as working on the main supply pipe is concerned.

On contacting the PHE department, the Dorbar Shnong members were informed that some of the contractors were unwilling to do the work.

“If the contractor is not willing to do work please cancel the tender and allow other contractors to start the work,” Lawai remarked.

Asked, he said that they are not aware as to why the work was stalled.

Lawai said that the water in Mawryngkneng is currently not sufficient especially in schools, hospitals, government offices,, block office, households.
