Police working overtime to nab all perpetrators behind petrol bomb attack incidents in Shillong: EKH SP

East Khasi Hills SP Rituraj Ravi on Thursday said police are working overtime to ensure all perpetrators behind the petrol bomb attack incidents are brought to justice.

Speaking to reporters, Ravi said, “We are working overtime and we shall leave no stone unturned in ensuring that all perpetrators are brought to justice and that peace prevails. We are fully committed and we are fully determined that such attempts by these miscreants/misguided youth shall not be successful.”

The SP said FIRs have been registered and investigation is under progress. So far no arrests have been made.

“However, in none of the cases any damage or any injury has been reported. Most of the cases, the object that they threw it did not even go off because of that reason, there is no damage to properties or any kind of injury has been reported. However in all these cases whenever it is reported, we have registered the cases and investigation is underway to identify the culprits,” he said.

Ravi informed that some pieces of broken glasses were also thrown on the roadside near the CRPF camp at Mawlai on Wednesday night. “We have not received any official complaint in that regard but we are enquiring into it,” he said.

Asked, the SP said, “There are two angles to it. One of course is maintenance of law and order, peace, public order and a sense of security and confidence in the minds and hearts of peace loving citizens of the city and of the district. East Khasi Hills police is determined and is committed to ensure that citizens of the city and the district feel a sense of security and there is confidence among them. However, at the same time, certain misguided youths took law into their own hands and have indulged in these kinds of cowardly, dastardly acts in an attempt to create fear psychosis among the general public.”

The SP also said that it is too early to link the incidents of petrol bomb attacks to anybody while responding to a query if the incidents have any connection with the recent arrests of NGO members.

“So all these incidents, it is a matter of ongoing investigation. It is too early to link it to anybody at this juncture. Further all are matters of ongoing investigation, I will not be at liberty to disclose the further details of it but rest assured that the perpetrators of all these incidents shall be brought to book,” he said.
