  • Police to exhume Passah’s body suspected to be killed

    JOWAI: In a tragic incident, one mentally deranged person was allegedly beaten to death by his own relatives in Jowai Town on Sunday.

    According to SP West Jaintia Hills Lakador Syiem informed that on Monday they received information that one mentally ill person identified as (L) Riwano Passah 44 year old resident of Wahnangbah, Iawmusiang Jowai died in a mysterious circumstance on Sunday evening.

    He also informed that the family immediately buried the victim the very next day between 4-5 PM without informing the police.

    Syiem said they suspected that Riwano was assaulted and beaten to death by some of his own relatives.

    The police on receiving information about the incident immediately rushed to the place of occurrence and seized items suspected to be used in the crime, he added.

    As the case is suspected to be a murder case, police detained 6 (six) of his relatives for questioning and a suo motto FIR was filed and case will be registered accordingly.

    Investigation of the case is in progress the SP said and they will seek the court’s permission to exhume the body for further investigation.
