The Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo people (FKJGP) on Wednesday demanded the police department to take suo motu case against a group of miscreants involved in assaulting four local youth at Sawlad Demseiniong.

This came after FKGJP information secretary Reginald Thabah was summoned to Sardar police station following an FIR filed against him for his alleged involvement in the incident which happened on 22 March at Sawlad Demseiniong.

Speaking to media persons, Thabah informed that four local youths including one member of the FKJGP was looted and assaulted by a group of 12-14 non-tribal people who were intoxicated at Demseiniong.

“On receiving information that one of our members has been assaulted in Demseiniong, we immediately rushed to the area and found out that he along with three others was injured after being assaulted by a group of 12-14 non-tribal people who were intoxicated. We managed to catch hold of one of them and took him to our office for questioning,” said Thabah.

Thabah said that that the FKJGP demand from the police department to take suo motu against those involved in Demseiniong incident and it should stop summoning local youth who are trying to protect themselves.

He further maintained that the FKJGP will not tolerate those trying to create trouble especially against the Khasi community in the near future.
