East Khasi Hills Police used tear gas and lathi charges against HITO activists when they attempted to hold a protest march towards the Meghalaya Secretariat in Shillong on Monday.

Several individuals were arrested for their involvement in throwing stones and using petrol bombs during the protest.

Leaders of HITO were summoned to the Sadar police station today.

Upon leaving the Sadar police station, they planned to march towards the secretariat to dump placards, but their progress was halted at the DC office. Subsequently, a clash broke out between the activists and the police.
