Police Commemoration Day observed in West Khasi Hills District

On October 20th, Shri. Bikram D. Marak, MPS, accompanied by Shri. Isaac. S. Marak and SI Samuel D. Sangma, I/C I/CAthiabari OP as a mark of respect and remembrance paid homage to the Martyrs hailing from West Khasi hills, namely (L) Namseng R. Marak Martyred on 30.10.2011 at Dobu, East Khasi Hills & (L) Rahul Marak Martyred at Tebonggre, West Garo Hills, while in their act of duty, by laying wreaths at their final place of rest located at Aradonga & Salpara, under Athiabari OP.
As a tribute to the 127 (one hundred and twenty-seven) martyrs of the Meghalaya Police who laid down their lives to ensure that the flag of the nation flies high with honour and dignity; the instructors and basic course trainees of the 8 Batch Basic Training in the APTC (Armed Police Training Centre) of the 4th BN MLP, Sohpian replaced the national flag measuring 3 metres x 2 metres with a height of 10 metres which was temporarily first flown on August 2023 as part of the ‘Har Tiranga Campaign’ by a permanent flag pole measuring 40 ft. (12.2 m) holding the national flag measuring 21 ft x 14 ft (6.4 m x 4.3 m).
During the unfurling of the national flag, the Superintendent of Police, Shri Bikram D. Marak, MPS and his team of officers, the officers and staff of the 4th BN MLP Hqrs. and the Sordar and village elders of Sohpian village were present. We are grateful to Shri Lening Bareh, Executive Engineer, PHQ, Engineering Cell for his valuable Suggestion on the Constructions of Flag Pole.
The formal programme ofthe Police Commemoration Day Parade 2023 was held in the Office of the Superintendent of Police, West Khasi Hills District, Nongstoin, In this programme, the Deputy Commissioner, Shri Garod L. S. N. Dykes, IAS, families of the martyrs, school children from K.J.P Sepngi Higher Secondary School, Nongstoin and Rev. J.J.M Nichols Roy Memorial Secondary School as well as police personnel paid homage to those martyrs who laid down their lives in the line of duty during the year 2022-23.
In order to bridge the gap between the police and the public, a programme to honour martyrs was also held at the Martyrs’ Memorial in the 4th BN MLP Hqrs., Sohpian where the Sordar and the Dorbar Shnong members, members of the Seng Kynthei of Sohpian village, members of the Seng Samla of Sohpian village, children and public from the surrounding villages were invited to witness the ceremonial parade on the occasion as well as to highlight the contribution of the bravehearts towards the safety and security of the public, the state and the country as a whole.
The students of the above mentioned schools also visited Nongstoin PS where they were familiarized with the functioning of the Police Station and also encouraged in them the spirit of Nationalism as inspired by our martyrs.
These programmes were widely appreciated by all and has fostered a sense of closeness towards the Meghalaya Police. Contributed
