In a crackdown against a major subversive act, Meghalaya Police on Wednesday foiled the attempt of blasting the toll plaza located at Pasyih-Ialong, West Jaintia Hills District.

Acting on a tip off, a joint operation comprising of Police Teams of East & West Jaintia Hills District was conducted on Wednesday in and around Jowai area.

According to a press communique, Assistant Inspector General of Police (A) Meghalaya, Shillong, GK Iangrai said that during the operation, 2 (Two) Persons were detained from Wahgate, Jowai, and from their possession, the Police Team recovered 5 (Five) Gelatines Sticks, 10 (Ten) Detonators and Fuse wire.

“It is suspected that the explosive devices are being brought for the purpose of causing an explosion in NH Toll Gate located at 7th Mile, West Jaintia Hills,” Iangrai said.

He added that a criminal case under Jowai Police Station has been registered and investigation of the case is in progress.

It may be mentioned that on February 16, the implementation of FASTag have irked the tourist vehicles of East and West Jaintia Hills District who have to pass through the toll plaza at Pasyih-Ialong as prior the implementation of FAStag they were paying Rs. 30 per day for passing through the toll plaza. But on February 16 they were directed to pay Rs.60 as double fees for non enrolling of FASTag. They blocked the entry of toll plaza and created chaos leading to a huge traffic jam. However, due to the intervention of the District Administration, the situation was defused and traffic was restored.
