With barely few hours more for 31st December is the last day of 2021 to be bury for eternity it is certain that the people of Jowai Town will welcome the new year 2022 with the garbage of the present year 2021.

The garbage has been lying in Iawmusiang the heart of Jowai Town since 21st December, last and presently covered half of the road making it difficult for motorists to navigate through the two way traffics.

The garbage has been lying there after the villagers of Thadmusem area and Elaka Nartiang Coordinate Committee (ENCC) opposed the disposal of garbage by Jowai Municipal Board in their village.

Day by day, the garbage multiply not only in Iawmusiang but in Lad Thomas Jones, Iawthymmei and other areas as well as in the residences of Jowai citizens.

The Jowai Municipal Board could not disposed off the garbage till date despite making another futile attempt on 26th December, last but the people and even blocked the entrance with a large boulder. They feared that the disposal of garbage will give rise to health problems and also pollutes the water sources near the landfills.

As per version of the ENCC leaders, the JMB authority undermined the authority of the Elaka Nartiang Dorbar as the latter were not taken into confidence by the former prior commencement of disposal of garbage in the areas.

The Christmas decoration and lighting put up by the selfless efforts of the various localities of Jowai Town were spoiled due to non disposal of the garbage by JMB lying in Iawmusiang, Jowai since 21st December and the New Year spirit is dampened by the failure of Meghalaya Govt.
