SHILLONG: The People’s Democratic Front (PDF) has decided to field Mosjo Rockfeller Wanswett, a former inspector of supply as its candidate for the bye-election to the Shella Assembly seat, slated to be held on October 21.

This was announced by PDF working president and cabinet minister Banteidor Lyngdoh after a meeting held here on Wednesday evening.

The United Democratic Party has recently appealed to all coalition partners of the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government to support the candidature of Balajied Kupar Synrem, son of late Dr Donkupar Roy.

When asked, Lyngdoh said that it doesn’t matter if the UDP or the PDF wins as both are part of the coalition and are for ensuring stability of the MDA government.

He however said the United Progressive Front (UPF) which comprises of the PDF, NCP, KHNAM and Independent has decided to support the candidate of the party.

Mosjo is the younger brother of Leston Wanswett who contested the 2018 general assembly election. He lost to Late Dr Donkupar Roy by a margin of 370 votes.
