PDF legislator from Sohra Gavin Miquel Mylliem has urged the state government to set up a Corona Care Centre at Sohra and other civil sub-divisions in East Khasi Hills, as it has been categorized as “red-zone” since all COVID-19 cases have been recorded in the district.

“There is a need to set up Corona Care Centre at Sohra as well as in other Civil Sub Divisions, depending on the situation,” Gavin said in his letter to the chief minister Conrad K Sangma here on Wednesday.

He also suggested the government to provide more PPEs and N95 masks to the frontline workers of Sohra CHC to ensure satety, and considerably minimise risks while performing their duties.

The MLA also asked the government to explore the possibility of turning home stays at Sohra into quarantine centres for those who cannot afford to adhere to laid down protocols /guidelines of the health department at home.

He further stressed on the need to provide additional ambulance as at present it is dillicult for Sohra Community Health Centre to cater to medical emergencies with just one ambulance.

The PDF legislator also expressed gratitude to the state government under leadership the CM and the guidance of the Health and Family Wellare Minister, AL Hek to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

“(I would also like to) put record our salute to our frontline warriors – doctors, nurses, health staff governiment officials, paramedics, police, media persons, who risk their life in saving someone’s life and all of those involved including headmen, in preventing the spread of this deadly killer virus,” Gavin said.
